OTT Pay is pleased to announce a strategic relationship with Chase Merchant Services, one of the leading merchant services providers in Canada.
Now, as a result, Canadian businesses will be able to use a single payment terminal to accept payments made on the largest Chinese digital payment platforms (WeChat Pay, Alipay and UnionPay QR Code), in addition to credit and debit payments.
This partnership highlights the growing awareness that Chinese digital payments are becoming steadily more popular in Canada.
Immigrants from China have long been one of this country’s largest foreign-born populations, Chinese tourists in Canada spend nearly $8000 CAD per trip on average, more than tourists from any other country, and students from China are the largest group of international students in Canada. Offering these popular digital payment platforms will help Canadian merchants welcome these Chinese customers, many of whom do not have western credit or debit cards. In addition, because WeChat Pay, Alipay and UnionPay QR Code automatically convert Chinese RMB into Canadian dollars, these super-apps make it easier for Chinese customers to know exactly how much they are spending.
“We’re very excited to work with Chase Merchant Services,” said William Lam, Chief Product Officer at OTT Pay Inc. “By offering WeChat Pay, Alipay and UnionPay QR Code, business owners are making it easier for their Chinese customers to spend more. There’s minimal cost to merchants, and the signage saying that they accept Chinese digital payments is like welcoming Chinese customers with open arms. We’ve listened to our customers, we understand their pain points, and we know what they need. As we continue to expand our footprint to new payment tenders, this will help us serve our clients better.”
